Ramon Kelley

Biography :

Of Irish and Mexican decent, Ramon was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming and worked as newspaper seller and ranch hand until joining the Navy. While stationed in Europe he was influenced by works of art from the Renaissance, French Impressionism and Russian school, with Nicolai Fechin being a source of Ramons strong figural paintings.  Primarily self-taught, Ramon recieved a scholarship to the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, where he met and married his wife Mona. He worked as an illustrator and graphic designer, doing portraits in the evening, until Jane Hiatt, owner of the Village Gallery in Taos, suggested he move into color and paints. He has recieved awards from the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America and the National Academy of Western Art and is in the Pastel Society hall of fame. His work captures the mood and emotion of his subjects in a way that allows the viewer to see the beauty and human elements with clarity. We are proud to display the many mediums and unique style of this nationally honored artist.
